Dutch online lender Floryn has been in business since 2016. The company provides business loans and credit loans to SMEs. In 2019, after a successful €60 million investment round, CEO Sven van der Biezen tasked Glasnost with staging a media campaign to simultaneously break the news as well as engage new clients and financiers. Challenge accepted! 

 

Great news for Floryn

The €60 million investment was big news, but that was not all. Floryn also made headlines by obtaining a PSD2-license from the Dutch Central Bank. The company’s SME credit guarantee scheme (BMKB-C) accreditation allows Floryn to play an important role in helping SMEs navigate the financial crisis caused by COVID-19. The success and timeliness of its financing activities literally paid off as Floryn secured yet another large investment. The capital injection to the sum of €9 million was made by Endeit Capital and constitutes the fourth milestone in a short space of time. It all sounds relatively simple, but getting a piece of the old boys financial sector pie isn’t an easy feat.

 

Snowball effect

We got the ball rolling by focusing our attention on national dailies and online media specialized in finance, business, tech and trade. In anticipation of Floryn’s future international expansion–and to plant the seeds of global recognition–we also approached a select number of international media outlets.

 

We first sent out the news to pertinent media outlets we know and love giving them the opportunity to speak to the person best placed to tell the story: Sven Van der Biezen. The news went viral when the press release was subsequently shared with a wide variety of relevant media outlets. 

 

Results

The campaign strategy was a success! Articles about Floryn were published in, among others, Het Financieele Dagblad, RTL Z, Brabants Dagblad, Business Insider, Quote and Sprout. Interviews with van der Biezen aired on BNR Nieuwsradio and appeared in print in Het Financieele Dagblad and Brabants Dagblad. The icing on the cake was the international attention the news received. Floryn crossed the border when European technology sites Tech.eu and Silicon Canals wrote about the large investments the online lender has received. As a result of the above, loan applications have almost doubled in recent times. Meanwhile, Floryn is eagerly anticipating its next milestone.
